ICARUS on its way to the ISS

ICARUS goes ISS

A major step forward: today’s lift-off of a Soyuz/Progress freighter to the ISS marks the delivery of 200kg of hardware for the ICARUS animal tracking project. The delivery, expected for February 15, contains the highly sensitive low-noise RF frontends developed by vH&S. These delicate pieces of hardware are responsible for picking up, amplifying and pre-processing the ultra-faint signals transmitted by the tracking modules attached to various animals.

The system is expected to become operational in August 2018, when the receiving antenna is due to be mounted outside the ISS during an extravehicular activity.
